Public Notice Posted: September 29, 2011 AVTA's Board of Directors has approved the proposed service changes to its fixed route system. These changes will improve service on Routes 1 and 6 and eliminate duplicative service. The changes are designed to improve efficiency and cut operating costs. The new plan, which would go into effect November 7, 2011, includes the following changes:
Details of Approved Service Changes: Details of each proposed service modification are outlined below and on the attached route map (pdf). Route 1 – Add an additional express bus service which will serve the UAV and four other transfer points. This service will operate two buses one in each direction (north and south) and will serve the UAV in 45 minute frequencies.
Southbound Express and service to the UAV from LCP will be via 10th Street West north to Avenue J, east on Avenue J to Sierra Highway, south on Sierra Highway to UAV. The service will continue from UAV south on Sierra Highway to Avenue K, west on Avenue K to 10th Street West, south on 10th Street West and back to LCP. It will continue south on 10th Street West, stop at Avenue M, stop at AV Mall, continue to Technology Dr., east on Technology and end at PTC. Northbound Express and service to UAV from PTC will be via Technology to 10th Street West, north on 10th Street West stop at AV Mall, stop at 10th & Avenue M, to LCP from LCP north on 10th Street West to Avenue J, east on Avenue J to Sierra Highway, south on Sierra Highway to UAV. Route 8 – Discontinue due to minimal ridership and service duplication. This route only serves approximately 5 passengers per vehicle service hour; 15 to 20 passengers per hour is the norm. The Route 12 currently shadows most of the Route 8 and the Route 1 Express will serve the UAV. The Line-by-Line analysis was conducted prior to the implementation of the Route 8 and was therefore not evaluated. Route 9 – This route would be discontinued as it duplicates service already provided by the Lake Los Angeles Express. Pete Knight High School is the primary reason for the existence of Route 9. A supplemental route would serve Pete Knight HS in accordance with bell schedules, departing from the PTC to east on Avenue Q, south on 40th Street East, east on Palmdale Boulevard, south to 47th Street East, east on Avenue S, north on 60th Street East, east on Avenue R, south 70th Street East stopping at Pete Knight HS. Route 6 – This route would be modified to serve the Sun Village via 47th & Avenue S, east on Avenue S, north on 60th Street east, east on Palmdale Blvd, south on 70th Street, west on Avenue S and back to 47th Street East. We are proposing to add service to Sun Village to ensure customer needs are met.
