AVTA in the Community

AVTA recognizes the needs of special interest groups by taking the time to educate and familiarize the public with AVTA services and by participating in local events like expos, festivals, and parades.

Senior citizens get special attention from AVTA. The Senior Advisory Committee (SAC), with representatives from the cities of Lancaster, Palmdale, and the County of Los Angeles, meet once a month to discuss, plan, and implement ways that AVTA can better serve the Valley’s growing senior population. Members of the SAC help staff the AVTA booth at senior events.

AVTA’s Public Information Officer (PIO) visits senior housing facilities to explain the system, answer questions and take seniors on a tour of their route. Seniors can comfortably board the bus and learn about wheel chair tie downs, how to use the time schedule, and how the transfer facility works. AVTA also co-sponsors Senior Day at the Antelope Valley Mall.

During the holiday season AVTA sponsors Stuff A Bus. A local transit bus is decorated and for 5 weekends in a row the bus is stationed at various locations around the valley. AVTA collects thousands of toys which are then sorted and distributed to local family help organizations.

Throughout the year, AVTA’s PIO attends Ride Share Fairs and makes presentations at various functions. The PIO also attends community meetings like the Palmdale Senior Citizen Advisory Council and the Lancaster Senior Citizen Center Caregiver events.
