AVTA implements service
improvements, Palmdale Transfer Center relocates
LANCASTER – The Antelope Valley
Transit Authority (AVTA) continues to improve local service by fine-tuning its
routes and transfer points. The newest system improvements which will take
effect Saturday, December 13, begin with the relocation of the Palmdale
Transfer Facility from Trade Center Drive, south of Technology Drive to 15th
Street West near Avenue O-8 (west side of the Antelope Valley Mall).
The
City of Palmdale has been working
diligently to prepare the site for passenger convenience. Benches, shelters, sidewalks,
and landscaping will be complete by the December 13 start date.
Other
improvements which AVTA believes will solve running time and transfer issues include
moving the transfer point for Routes 1, 2, and 3 to 10th Street
East near the Senior Center; and changing Route 1
service to Palmdale Blvd between 10th Street
East and 10th Street
West.
To
assist riders with the transition, information centers will be established at
key locations several days prior to the change and for several days after the
new service begins. These locations include the Palmdale Senior Citizens
Center, the new Palmdale Transfer Center, Lancaster City Park Transfer Center, and the Trade Center Drive location.
AVTA
riders should call 945-9445 with routing and scheduling questions. For more
information on the above changes, please call Randy Floyd, AVTA Planning
Manager, 661-729-2206.
New time schedules and
route maps featuring all service changes and additions will be available on
each bus, and at all locations that normally offer AVTA route schedules, beginning
December 8, or check out the website at www.avta.com.
