AVTA Board appoints Randy Floyd Interim Executive Director
LANCASTER – In a special board
meeting held after last Friday’s grand opening event for the Antelope Valley
Transit Authority’s (AVTA) new facility, the Board of Directors named Randy
Floyd Interim Executive Director. Floyd will replace Jeffery J.O’Keefe who was hired last March to serve as the
Executive Director.
O’Keefe was to step
into the company’s top position at the end of this month,
however, in a recent letter addressed to the Board of Directors, he expressed
deep regret at turning down the appointment and cited poor health as the cause.
After a lengthy
closed-door session, Chairman Henry Hearns announced
the Board’s decision to discontinue the search effort to replace O’Keefe, and
to name Randy Floyd as the Interim Executive Director until further notice.
Floyd has served as AVTA’s Planning Manager for the past three years. Before
hiring on at AVTA, Floyd worked for the City of Palmdale as the Senior
Analyst where he also served on the Technical Advisory Committee for AVTA.
Leaving the City of Palmdale, Floyd went to work for Southern California Association of Governments
(SCAG) as the Sub-regional Coordinator in the Budget and Grants Division.
Now settled into the
new $21-million facility at 42210 6th Street West in Lancaster, and with 90% of the vehicle fleet having been replaced, AVTA will
enjoy a secure and efficient environment for
maintenance and operation of the bus service that will provide reliable and
clean transportation for AVTA's customers.
