AVTA introduces “new and
improved” services on
August 30, 2003
LANCASTER – The Antelope Valley
Transit Authority (AVTA) has made numerous system-wide improvements which will
begin Saturday, August 30. Some of the changes include, in Lancaster, all day service to the
courthouse, new service to the Lancaster business park, improved
radial service from downtown Lancaster to East Lancaster, and direct service
from the Department of Social Services to central Lancaster.
In Palmdale, service
improvements include simpler route structure on major arterials, half-hour
service to medical center, new service in southwest Palmdale, revised Routes 1,
2, and 3.
AVTA
is especially pleased to introduce shuttle service to the community of Lake Los Angeles. This new service will also
begin August 30, and to celebrate the occasion shuttle rides will be free all
day Saturday and Sunday, August 30 & 31!
This
new service has been made possible through the support of Supervisor Michael
Antonovich and funding from the County of Los Angeles. “We must continually look for new ways to enhance the
system as the population in Littlerock and Lake Los
Angeles continues to grow,” said
Antonovich. “The AVTA serves all members of the community by providing vital
links to places of employment, schools, services and medical care.”
Representing the County of Los
Angeles
on the AVTA Board of Directors,
Robert Keys, commented that
Although the service will benefit the entire community, Lake Los Angeles seniors are particularly excited about the new service. Duane
Jacobsen, long-time resident and member of the senior citizens group here says,
“It is encouraging for us to anticipate increased access to the temptations of
the outside world!”
The new AVTA
services will include local circulation for passengers traveling within Lake Los
Angeles. Inter-community service will be
provided for passengers traveling between Lake Los
Angeles and Littlerock. Connecting service
to Route 9 and the transfer center on Trade
Center Drive will be every hour on the hour at 170th
Street East and Avenue O. Be sure to see the
route map and time schedule in this issue of the Lake Los Angeles News.
New time schedules and
route maps featuring all service changes and additions will be available on
August 15. For more information give AVTA a call at 945-9445 ext. 200 or check
out the website at www.avta.com.
