 Martin Tompkins PortraitOn November 23, 2021, the Antelope Valley Transit Authority Board of Directors appointed Martin J. Tompkins as the transit agency’s new executive director/CEO effective January 1, 2022. Martin previously served as COO/Senior Director of Operations and Planning and has been with AVTA off and on since 2006 and rejoined in 2019.

Martin has more than 35 years of experience in the transit industry in the private sector based in Los Angeles. He began his transit career as a bus operator and quickly rose in responsibility. 

Over the past 25 years, Martin served as a general and regional manager for two major transportation corporations with responsibilities throughout California. Martin brings a wealth of transportation expertise to the Antelope Valley.

In 2007, Martin completed the leadership program at the University of South Florida and the Center for Urban Transportation Research. Away from the office, Martin enjoys time with his wife of 30-plus years, their two children, and two grandchildren, watching Raiders football and working on his project car.

AVTA Board

The Antelope Valley Transit Authority is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of appointees representing its three member agencies, Los Angeles County, the City of Palmdale and the City of Lancaster. The Board meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. in the Antelope Valley Transit Authority Community Room. The facility address is 42210 6th Street West, Lancaster CA 93534. Starting October 2026, the AVTA lobby will no longer be open the last Saturday of the month for pass sales. the lobby will be open until 8:30pm on the last Friday of the month, and every last Friday of the month moving forward.
