AVTA Providing Round Trip Bus Service to HDMG Senior Expo from Antelope Valley Senior Center

Lancaster – The Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA) will continue its tradition this year of providing complimentary round-trip bus service to the High Desert Medical Group 28th Annual Senior Expo. This year’s Expo will be held at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds on Thursday, October 18. Expo organizers at High Desert Medical Group are expecting a large crowd, and AVTA’s round trip service from the Antelope Valley Senior Center to the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds has proven to be both convenient and popular.

“We are pleased to be able to provide this special service for our seniors again this year, as the event is a great opportunity for our residents to receive vital information about health and services,” stated AVTA Board Chairman Marvin Crist. “AVTA strives to be a community partner, and we are grateful for the chance to support not only this wonderful event, but our senior citizens as well.”

Senior Center officials are currently taking signups for a seat on the bus, which will make two trips from the center at 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. The Senior Expo hours are from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. in the Hunter Dodge Pavilion, and AVTA will have return trips leaving the fairgrounds at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. back to the Senior Center.

Attendees can dance, sing and reminisce at this year’s Expo with the theme of “Memories…the Music in Your Heart”. Alongside over 100 vendors, AVTA will have a booth set up during the Expo, where seniors can gather essential information about local, Transporter, commuter, and Dial-ARide services, including routes, fares, and trip-planning. In addition to learning more about transportation and other services, Senior Expo attendees can also receive free health screenings and flu-shots.

“The Senior Expo is a great opportunity for people to increase their awareness, receive vital information, and stay up to date on new services. It is also a perfect time to try out our bus for free, especially for those who are riding for the first time. Mobility plays a key role in seniors staying active, social, and healthy, so we hope they will take advantage of this chance to learn more about everything AVTA has to offer,” said Macy Neshati, AVTA Executive Director and CEO.

Since 2015, AVTA has been offering all eligible seniors (62 and older) a free 12-month bus pass for unrestricted use on local transit service. Seniors also pay reduced fares on commuter service and qualify for Dial-A-Ride service, which offers curbside transportation throughout the Antelope Valley.

AVTA provides local, commuter and dial-a-ride service to a population of more than 450,000 residents in the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale as well as the unincorporated portions of northern Los Angeles County. Its total service area covers 1,200 square miles and it is bounded by the Kern County line to the north, the San Bernardino County line to the east, the Angeles National Forest to the south, and Interstate 5 to the West.
