Definition

Main Facilities: Under general supervision, performs the full range of maintenance duties of Authority grounds, including landscapes, parking lots, paths, irrigation systems and controllers, and weed abatement; and performs related work as required.

Off-Site Facilities: Under general supervision, performs the full range of bus sanitization on all in revenue services buses at AVTA’s transit and transfer centers. The sanitization will take place after each bus completes a revenue trip ending at the Transit/Transfer Centers. Each member will perform the duties as described below and perform other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received & Exercised

Main Facilities: Receives general supervision from the Safety and Facilities Manager. Exercises no supervision of staff.

Off-site Facilities: Receives general supervision from the Maintenance Compliance Manager. Exercises no supervision of staff.

Class Characteristics

Main Facilities: This classification performs the full range of maintenance and custodial work required to ensure Authority grounds provide the highest level of safety for the public and staff. Responsibilities include inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner and performing a wide variety of tasks in the maintenance of assigned grounds, and facilities. This class is distinguished from Facilities Maintenance Technician classes in that the latter performs duties that require more specialization and advanced trade skills.

Off-Site Facilities: This classification performs the full range of bus sanitization on all in revenue services buses at AVTA’s transit and transfer centers. Bus sanitization is to provide the highest level of safety, related to COVID-19 for the public and staff. Responsibilities include by using CDC approved products for: wiping down of stations, seat surfaces, grab rails, plastic curtains, operator barriers and all touch surfaces. This class is distinguished from contracted services for “bus utility crew” who clean and fuel buses in the evening at the AVTA Facility.

Main Facilities:

  • Performs custodial duties involving the care, maintenance and cleaning of Authority buildings and related facilities.

  • Cleans and sanitizes restroom facilities and fixtures including sinks, urinals and toilets; replenishes supplies in restrooms.

  • Sweeps, vacuums, mops, and buffs floors and carpets.

  • Dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, fixtures and equipment.

  • Washes windows, mirrors and walls.

  • Cleans furniture and counter tops.

  • Empties, cleans and sanitizes waste receptacles.

  • Performs lawn and turf maintenance duties, including watering, mowing, weeding, trimming, aerating, renovating, filling holes, and fertilizing lawn areas.

  • Performs shrub, and tree maintenance, including planting, watering, fertilizing, trimming, pruning and maintaining landscaped areas such as bushes, trees, flowers, shrubs, and hedges; performs weed abatement and insect control using a chemical sprayer.

  • Performs a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of the irrigation system; changes and adjust heads; maintains controllers; participates in performing irrigation system installation and maintenance projects.

  • Cleans and maintains parking lots as needed.

  • Rakes leaves and clears debris from walkways, and other facilities.

  • Picks up trash from trash receptacles in assigned areas; maintains non-cultivated areas in a neat and orderly fashion.

  • Cleans exterior windows.

  • Operates and maintains specialized vehicles and a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment and hand and power tools related to the maintenance and repair of Authority grounds and related facilities.

  • Attends in-services and safety meetings as assigned.

  • Performs related work as assigned.

Off-Site Facilities:

  • Performs sanitization duties involving the disinfecting of the interior “Touch Surfaces” of a revenue vehicle.

  • Sanitizes stations, grab rails, farebox, operator barriers, seats, plastic curtains and all touch surfaces by using a CDC approved chemical sprayer and towels.

  • Cleans and sanitize bus top amenities at the Transit/Transfer Centers.

  • Cleans and sanitizes restroom facilities at Transit/Transfer Centers and fixtures including sinks, urinals and toilets; replenishes supplies in restrooms.

  • Attends in-services and safety meetings as assigned.

  • Performs other related work as assigned.

Qualifications

Main Facilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Methods, materials, and equipment used in landscape and grounds maintenance and repair work.

  • Operation, use, and minor maintenance of light and heavy duty in landscape and grounds maintenance and repair work.

  • Proper use and methods in the application of chemicals for weed, insect, and pest control.

  • Basic principles of record keeping.

  • Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, and Authority staff.


Ability to:
  • Perform maintenance and repair work on grounds, landscape, parking lots, irrigation systems and controllers, and weed abatement.

  • Safely and effectively operate specialized landscaping maintenance and repair equipment.

  • Recognize equipment malfunctions and take appropriate action.

  • Maintain assigned work area in a clean, safe, and secure manner.

  • Maintain routine records.

  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Operate two-way radio.

  • Organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.

  • Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines.

  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and two (2) years of general landscape, grounds, or related facilities maintenance experience

License:
  • Main Facilities: None.
  • Off-Site Facilities: Class C

Physical Demands

st possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work, to operate varied hand and power tools and related equipment, and to climb and descend vehicles; vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, use of both eyes, and the ability to adjust focus; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves work requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment and to operate vehicles, objects, or controls. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work vehicles. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 75 pounds, and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.

Environmental Elements

Employees primarily work in the field and are occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, and dust, chemicals, and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives and contractors in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
